Our history with Saanens and Sable Saanens - How it all began. . .

The original herdname (BEAU-NORTE) was registered with the American Dairy Goat Association.

On March 2, 1981 the purebred Saanen doe kid BEAU-NORTE WW FLEUR D'LILLY S445240 was born.

As a first freshening yearling, she was awarded GCH under judge Pinky Hawes at the Idaho Syringa Dairy Goat Association's summer show held at the old dairy barns in Meridian, Idaho.

Later, she went to live with Charles and Karen Evans' ROLLINGSTONE Saanen herd in Parma, Idaho where she produced a son named ROLLINGSTONE BEAU DARE S588755 who in turn is behind many high producing Saanens in the Eastern part of the U.S.

At the age of 5 years, Fleur returned home to the Beau-Norte herd, making a long trip from Parma, Idaho to Roseburg, Oregon.  After settling back into the herd, it was decided she had all the qualities needed to be competitive on the show circuit.  That year she became a permanent Champion, earning her GCH 1*M status by securing three additional Grand Champion wins under judges Stephen Richter, Pat Hendrickson, and Diane Heaney.

Fleur was also selected as Best Udder of Breed at each of those three shows!

This was in very strong competition with animals from herds in California, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington that in their own right were beautiful examples of the breed!

As a 5-year-old, fifth freshening doe, Fleur's 24-hour production was:  10.5 pounds of milk at 5.22% butterfat!

Although not a high volume doe, her milk was high butterfat and very flavorful.  She was a favorite for house milk!

Fleur had proven her quality in her own right, as well as through her son, Beau Dare, contributing to genetics behind some top Saanen and Sable lines available today.

As it turned out, her sire WHIP'ERWIL WAUBENEMEE S374461 proved to be a 'color carrier' and helped maintain some of the qualities of the beautiful Purebred Saanens in the genetic pallette of the Sable bloodlines still in use today!

In addition, her sire Waubenemee (who was our Saanen foundation herdsire) can be found behind many of the winning animals from WSU/VMP that helped found the superlative WILLOW RUN Saanen herd owned by Patti Dean of Ohio.

These lines continue to be acknowledged as the 'cream of the crop' in the dairy goat world even to this day.  Two of the three Saanens offered at the ADGA 2007 Spotlight Sale trace back to the original Waubenemee through his BEAU-NORTE descendants!

And then there were Sables... When I decided to raise Sable Saanens, it was also time for a change that would be more inclusive for all of the projects associated with our country lifestyle.  So, we now have the herdname of:
